Group-Based Lending & Savings

At Kitusacco, we believe in the power of groups. Groups provide social collateral, peer support, and collective accountability. Most of our lending is done through established groups, which has proven to be highly effective in ensuring repayment and building community wealth.

We work with different types of groups across Kabarole District:

Farmer Cooperatives

Groups of smallholder farmers who pool their resources to access agricultural loans, bulk purchase inputs, and collectively market their produce.

VSLA Groups

Village Savings and Loan Association groups following the traditional VSLA methodology. These groups save together, lend to each other, and access additional capital from the SACCO.

Women's Groups

Empowering women through collective savings, business skills training, and access to capital for income-generating activities.

Youth Groups

Special groups for young entrepreneurs and agribusiness enthusiasts, offering youth-friendly loan products and mentorship.

Community-Based Groups

Existing community groups such as burial societies, church groups, and parent-teacher associations that want to add savings and credit to their activities.

Benefits of Joining a Group

Why groups are the foundation of our SACCO model.

Group Loans with No Collateral

Groups can access loans using social collateral — the group guarantees the loan collectively, eliminating the need for individual collateral.

Lower Interest Rates

Group loans attract lower interest rates compared to individual loans, making credit more affordable.

Collective Bargaining Power

Groups can bulk-purchase inputs, negotiate better prices for produce, and access markets collectively.

Peer Learning & Support

Members learn from each other, share best practices, and provide mutual support during difficult times.

Training & Capacity Building

The SACCO provides tailored training to groups on financial management, governance, and business skills.

Group Savings Bonuses

Groups that save consistently receive bonus interest and are eligible for special SACCO rewards programs.
